Message from the Chair: Thomas Tape, MD, FACP
On behalf of the ACP Services PAC Board, thank you for contributing to the PAC in 2013. Because of you, we had our fourth straight record-setting year, raising a total of $165, 822 from 726 members.
See a full of list of 2013 PAC members.
Your participation allowed us to support 63 internist-friendly candidates for the House and Senate. In 2013, we contributed $150,000 to congressional candidates, including two ACP Fellows, sent 36 PAC members to events, and sponsored five fundraisers. Look for us to be even more active in 2014, an election year.

We need to keep up our momentum—for two important reasons! First, this year, we have the best opportunity we have ever had to finally repeal the flawed sustainable growth rate (SGR) payment formula and replace it with a new payment system that better recognizes the value of the care provided by internists. It is clear our voice is being heard. Lawmakers incorporated many of ACP Services recommendations in the bipartisan SGR bills approved by the three congressional health committees last year. However, much advocacy is still needed to push Congress to complete its work and send a bill to the President. In 2014, ACP Services PAC is committed to continuing to develop and strengthen relationships with members of Congress in order to better advocate for our specialty and our patients.
Second, we are growing thanks to your contributions but still have one of the smallest physician PACs. Both the family physicians and the osteopaths have PACs that are more than twice our size. If you have not already done so, please visit and make your 2014 PAC contribution online today (you will be prompted for your ACP username and password). Our goal is to raise $200,000 in this important election year, and I hope you will consider increasing your contribution and helping us expand our ranks in 2014!
PAC Members Urged to Recommend Candidates for Support
We want to hear from you. As a PAC member, you have the opportunity to recommend candidates for consideration by the PAC Board. The PAC's contribution guidelines can be found here. For an incumbent, the primary factors the PAC Board considers are the position the candidate holds in the Congress, committee assignments, and voting record on legislation important to Internal Medicine.
The PAC Board will consider open seat and challenger candidates who are recommended by PAC members and are supportive of ACP Services legislative priorities.
Participation in PAC's Leadership Club at All-time High in 2013
Last year, a record 54 members contributed at the PAC's Leadership Club level (contributions of $1,000-$5,000), our highest giving category. Contributions from these Leadership Club members represented 23 percent of the PAC’s total contributions.
The PAC Board extends its appreciation to those members who generously contributed at the Leadership Club level in 2013:

PAC Members Discuss Internal Medicine's Priority Issues at Local Events
The following members volunteered their time to attend local candidate events in 2013. Disbursing PAC funds on the local level is extremely valuable. These PAC members helped educate lawmakers about Internal Medicine's priority issues by speaking with their members of Congress and staff directly. The PAC Board thanks you for your commitment to the PAC.
